Yamaha XVS650 - retired in 2012??

Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' at netrider.net.au started by Tone2, Sep 16, 2011.

  1. It seems that Yamaha's biggest LAMS approved cruiser will be no more from next year. The 2012 line-up has been released, with no XVS650 included.

Interesting, given that it has been the best selling cruiser in the Aussie market for the past while.

On the Yamaha Motorcycle Forum, some guy who works for a dealer reckons it will only be the Classic retired, with the Custom to come back in 2012, but there's no official info to support that. Officially, the 650's have disappeared...

  2. Awesome. Might increase the resale price on my Classic :)
  3. That is in America though... might not be so bad.

Shame, from memory riding an XVS a few years back it was a great bike.
  4. In America they dropped the Classic this year (2011) but it was available elsewhere, and the story I've been told is they have dropped the Custom for next year to try and push sales of their other models which the 650 was hurting in the US.

They sell the XVS650 by the truck loads. We could well find they are running stock down as there have been talks about them, releasing it as belt drive and efi.
  5. The 650 certainly re-sells for the same price, or higher, than the 1100 so they're obviously a good bike.
