Yamaha XV250 Virago (Viagra) - Electrical Problem

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' at netrider.net.au started by Tomo201070, Jul 7, 2007.

  1. Hi Guys,

Been away from Oz for the last 4 weeks, couldn't wait to get out on the bike this morning for a blast whilst the Jet lag has got my internal clock all buggered. :tantrum:

The bike started up fine, had the choke out on full for a while whilst she warmed up, turned down the choke incrementally and then held the throttle open for a bit to make sure that she would be OK. Turned the throttle a couple of times and she sounded fine. I got off the bike, stood beside her and throttled it a couple more times and then she just died on me. No lights, nothing!! I've checked the battery and that's fully charged.

I need to get out for a blast as the wife has lots of jobs for me to begin on our new residence!!

No electrics being shown on the console leads me to think there is a short somewhere. I'm hoping one of you experienced riders will be able to steer a newbie like me in the right direction in what I should check for other than the battery. :newb:

Any and all useful help gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Mike

  3. don't think it's the kill switch.... the virago's light comes on straight away when you turn the key and not when you flip the engine switch so I don't think it's the kill switch.

get it checked out by a mechanic - this I haven't heard of.. I own a virago and they tend to be abit sensitive with electronics (my hazard lights don't work and my turning lights are blinking at funny rates)
Last time I had it checked they sed I had to replace the box... I forgot what it was called but it's under the seat screwed to the back fender.... it was gonna cost me almost $300.

that reminds me, I gotta follow up on that before I have no turning lights at all
