Yamaha MT-03 in Australia ???

Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' started by martych, Oct 1, 2006.

  1. I was next to the most amazing bike at the lights today and have been searching the net to find out what it was.

Was in the cage with 2 kids screaming at me so couldn't get closer for a good look. Pretty sure it was a Yammy tho.

From looking at a ton of pics on the net....it looked most like a Yamaha MT-03. (Seriously sexy looking bike.)

Thing is tho, I don't think Yamaha Australia bring these in. Any suggestions ?

(definitely was too small to be the MT-01)
  2. You'd have known if it was an MT-01; they block out the sun
  3. Yamaha doesn't bring MT-03 to Australia at this stage, but maybe someone brought one privately? Is that even possible? I wouldn't know.
Maybe what you saw was Yamaha XT660 like this one: http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/305414/
  4. I hope Yamaha do eventually import the MT-03, it looks amazing.

What is the go with importing new, current model bikes privately? I think I remember something about the vehicle needing to be 15 years old before you can import it privately?!?!? I am unsure and stand to be corrected though.
  5. It was only a 15 year rule when it was introduced - it's actually only vehicles predating 1989 that aren't restricted. Anything newer than that can be brought in by a registered workshop or privately under the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle scheme (SEVs) but only if it's an approved model. And not many vehicles make the approved list :(.
