Where do spark plugs get there spark from? power source...

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Neg, Apr 18, 2006.

  1. Hey just wondering guys.... where does the spark plug get its power from once the bike is running, alternator or battery? or elsewhere? no idea....

  2. From the coil pack, which draws power from the battery, which in turn draws power from the alternator (least it does on my bike).
  3. Every time a child laughs somewhere in the world it generates a spark in a spark plug.

And every time a child says they don't believe in spark plugs, a fairy dies.

    Or something like that.
Oh god, I think I need an early night tonight.
  4. It comes from the coil packs, and is timed from the pulses of the rotor on the end of the crankshaft, and then on the more modern bikes from the computer chip.

the coils drag power from the 12 volt system, it goes in @ 12V and and comes out as an approx 22000V charge.

thats the basic idea concept of where and how the 'spark' is formed

  5. Cheers guys, appreciate it

    Just noticed your sig:
Why do today what one can put off until tomorrow

perhaps add, "unless it's a ride"?
