When does the radiator fan turn on?

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by hansrd_98, Mar 21, 2008.

  1. On a 1999 R6, at what temperature is the radiator fan supposed to come on? And is it normal for the temp to creep up to 105 riding in city traffic (slow moving, stuck at lights etc).

  2. That can happen on a stinking hot day. My bike has touched 100 degC in traffic every day for the last 2 weeks.

According to Yamaha's official manual, the fan should come
on at 105 degC and should stay on until the temp drops to
    100 degC (accuracy +/- 3 degC).

So it sounds like yours is perfect.
  3. I've got a 03 R6 and the fan comes on at 100 degrees and stays on until it drops to about 95.

105 is fine - my bike has a temp alarm when it reaches 115, but that's never happened and i've ridden in some pretty slow traffic conditions on really hot days.
