Whats the benefit of a Rear Spring lift kit?

  1. I have an option to fit a adaptor to the rear suspension to change the angle of attack. Its said to give better handling and a stronger stance.
    It makes the back of the bike sit up a little like a motorcross bike.
    should look good but what will happen?
    What are the pro's and con's, I would really like to hear from someone who has tried this.

  2. It'll give you a steeper head angle, quicker steering, less stable and more prone to headshake, less prone to tuck. That's all rule of thumb stuff though.

    You can try winding your preload right up on the rear just to try out having extra lift in the back. Ignore the harshness of the rear and just concentrate on how the front end feels, that'll give you an idea of what your lift kit might feel like.

    Unless it's a common or recommended mod for your bike I wouldn't be doing it though.
  3. +1 devotard, that's it exactly and the same test as I was going to suggest.

    Beware of lifting too far, as you will lose the feedback in the
    steering. Light easy responsive steering is great for an experienced
    pilot, but go one step further and you get featherlight steering with
    no feedback pressure and quite slappy, which is difficult for
    the experienced and very very bad news to the ham-fisted.
    Also at extreme lean angles it can "fall in" to the corner easier/sooner.

    Exact results depend on:
    -bike design including chassis shape, shocker progression, wheel weight
    -rider body position, weight
    -rider style and skill
    -suspension settings
    -tyre style/pressure/shape/size
