What to expect on Reefton-Woods Point-Jamieson

Discussion in 'Roads, Touring, Journeys, and Travel' started by dryfter, Oct 21, 2013.

  1. Hi,
Can someone describe the road from Reefton to Jamieson via Woods Point?

I've done the Reefton Spur numerous times, going from Warburton to Marysville or back, but I haven't tried the dirt tracks leading off to Woods Point.

Is it dirt the whole way? What kind of condition are the roads in?

  2. Google street view shows it and it looks like dirt/gravel.
  3. That's a good idea! I I didn't think to try Streeview.
It does look like gravel all the way to Jamieson. Could be a fun ride, but I think I'll try and find a buddy before setting off on that massive loop.
  4. A fair bit of dirt.
Dirt pretty much from reefton to Kevington, although some small patches of tar.
Just watch going down the hill from Matlock to Woodspoint, can be skatey!
Take it easy through all the small towns, particularly Woodspoint, its a 40kph zone and the local plod keeps a close eye on things.
As far as the rest of the ride, it is enjoyable, just be sure to keep left rounding corners.
