What do I need to know about buying a bike?

Discussion in 'New Riders and Riding Tips' started by mkay, Aug 24, 2011.

  1. Hey,
I just settled to Australia and want to buy a second hand bike here. My question is not, what i have to know about the bike to know if it is on good condition, my question is, what papers, certificates, etc must the foreign owner give me when he sells it.
    Kind Regards

  2. If you have just settled here, you is the foreigner

If the bike is registered, they will have to give you at the minimum, the original rego papers.

If not registered, get a letter stating the details of the bike, vin number ,e.t.c., and the full details of the seller....
  3. where do you live? different states have different paperwork
  4. Thanks for the tips, I live in Melbourne.
  5. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/

This is the authority that deals with registrations and anything automotive/roads/cars/bikes etc in your state.

Everything you need to know will be on there.

Welcome to Australia mate, chuck another shrimp on the barby n shit.
  6. Hello and welcome mkay.

Nobody really chucks shrimps on Barbie. She gets upset, and then Ken starts punching people. Nice couple, good looking, not the sharpest tools in the shed though.
