What are the advantages of fully floating rotors?

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by davesta, Jul 1, 2006.

  1. Hey all, just curious about what the advantage of fully floating rotors are compared to old school solid ones. Short and sweet

  2. Dave

The less rotating mass on a wheel, the less gyroscopic force it creates. The less gyroscopic force on the wheel, the easier the bike is to turn in.

They examined these for race bikes, but found that the added unsprung mass overshadowed the quick steering benefit.
  3. Hmm, or perhaps I'm talking about those ones where the disc rotors don't spin with the wheel. Don't mind me, I'll just go over there now. ->
