Weekend trip North of Brisbane

Discussion in 'Roads, Touring, Journeys, and Travel' started by BugEye, May 28, 2008.

  1. G'day All,

    Mate and I are thinking of going up north for the weekend
    Say 5-6 hours riding and stop off for the night and have some drinks
    Then head back down again next day

    Any suggestions? roads worth checking out? good destinations?
    places to stay?

    has any one already done something like that up North?

  2. I live up on the sunny coast. Here's a suggested ride up.

    Caboolture -> Landsborough via the old Glasshouse Mountains Road (parallel to highway)
    Landsborough -> Maleny (stop by mountain view road)
    Maleny -> Kenilworth
    Kenilworth -> Eumundi (markets on saturday till 2pm)
    Eumundi -> Noosa

    Coming Back

    Noosa - Maroochy/Moololaba via David low way (parallel to beach) and Sunshine Motorway
    Further detour -> Any road within the Maleny/Mapleton/Nambour/Landsborough rectangle.

    All places can easily be seen at 5km alt on googlemaps. however as it seems it will be raining this weekend perhaps save it for another. Good hostels easy to find in noosa this time of year.

    How 'bout this for a route ...

    Bris - Caboolture - Woodford - Cedarton up hill, turn left onto Stanley River Rd along to Maleny. Choose a course to Mapleton (lunch at Mapleton Pub & great view). Down the range to Nambour head north to Tewantin and Boreen Point drop into Apollonian Hotel (they have great meals and cheap, cheerful & clean accom.) or perhaps head to Kin Kin good meals and accom. there too or maybe Imbil same thing and take a ride out to Borumba Dam.

    If you're feeling like going further afield head further north to Tin Can Bay, plenty of accom. there believe the hotel is fine (haven't stayed there myself).

    Stanley River Rd is very popular with bikers ergo 'smokey' sets his cameras up from time to time to do 'pixie photos' so remember to smile if you intend doing more than the posted limit.

    Trust the weather treats you right and you have a great ride wherever you choose to go. Take care and stay upright (the best position to be!!!). :wink:
