Web Security. Arrggh!!!

Discussion in 'General Motorcycling Discussion' at netrider.net.au started by mjt57, Nov 14, 2004.

  1. Despite this web site's implementation of censor controls, my work's network's nanny, Symantec's Web Security is blocking nearly every page that I'm trying to read.

Thing is, it's only Netrider that's doing it.

Perhaps it's a subtle message from the boss, huh? Don't hang out with motorbike 'net geeks.....

  2. I have the same problems with the hospital pc. Occasionally the firewall comes up and tells me to do some work.

I just abuse it, call it a few different creative names and by the time i'm done abuse it, it comes good again.
  3. we have a similar thing at my work,
    try this.
(if your using windows 2k or xp)
    open Iternet Explorer
    at the top click on
    Tools - Internet options
and click on the "connections" tab
then click on the LAN settings at the bottom.

Look for where it says "Proxy Server" at the bottom,
and if the box to use a proxy is selected, deselect it. (but make a note of what numbers entered into it, incase you need to reenter them.)

then at the top, make sure
    "automatically detect settings" is selected.

if you cant open the internet options,
    try clicking
START - RUN, type inetcpl.cpl and hit enter.
    this should bring it up.

this is what i can do at my work place and after changing these settings, nothing i dois monitored. (I'm in the IT Dept so i can check the reports)
but it doesnt work for all programs.
try it, see how you go..

If you dont have access to the tab called Connections.
then they have blocked it properly, sorry, im not much help in this case..
