So I finally got my VTR250 fixed by the guys at Motoheaven (previous post I was asking for a good mechanic in south eastern suburbs melbourne so if anyone else is looking I recommend Motoheaven in Moorabbin). Back on the road. Happily commuting to and from work... and then.... SMIDSY... jerk runs me off the road in Camberwell - emergency break - wheels lock up - bike goes down. Luckily the guy behind me stops and the people in the shops all come out - I think many were riders and everyone rushes to help. I have a witness from the guy behind me - guy down the street stops the run-away driver and makes him come back - everyone has a go at him and he makes the claim on the spot. Only thing is I just spent over a grand making my baby run smooth (complete clutch remake) it was running really well and I dont think I am going to get anything as good for the payout I am likely to receive - and I had made friends with my first bike - I was not ready to let her go yet. Not to mention my helmet design is no longer made (Bell Bullitt TT) or at least its not in the shops anymore... the kevlar jeans I FINALLY found to fit me - high waisted RTS ones with some armour are also partly damaged... seriously not a single pair of Dragon jeans fit me... so this is the whinge part of my post. Luckily I was wearing top to toe gear and so all I sustained was a slight bruising. I fully recommend wearing gear even at slow speed there are too many idiots on the roads. He pulled out from a complete stop with no indicator on top of me in my lane. Go figure. If you cant use your mirrors or your indicator you should have your car license taken off you. And I was not filtering at the time I was in the left lane and he was in the right lane. So then I started to get my heart set on the bike sales.com vtr250 rebuild (not sure if anyone saw it - between a cafe a brat style) but it sold and I am still waiting for the official verdict from the independent assessor. So it is back to the drawing board looking for a cheap VTR250 and trying to work out exactly how I can modify it to suit what I am looking for. I am on my restricted for just less than 3 years still so I am stuck with a LAMS bike. My bike had flat handlebars instead of the normal upright VTR position and that would be one of the first things I would want to do. So my question is 1) any good VTR250s out there going at a low price but clean bike? with RWC and Rego? (less than 4k) 2) any recommendations for where to get flat or even cafe handlebars (the downturned kind - sorry I do not know the technical terms for anything) - that would be the first thing I want to change Sad and bikeless right before the superbikes. Be kind.
