Victoria No Longer 'The Place To Be'?

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by Lazy Libran, Sep 6, 2012.

  1. Victoria's history of uplifting number plate messages came to a screeching halt today when the government announced a new slogan aimed at reducing the road toll.

The new number plate slogan "Vic – Stay Alert Stay Alive" is part of a State Government bid to promote road safety.

Previous messages have included "Victoria - on the move" during the Kennett era, "Victoria - garden state" and "Victoria - the place to be".

Premier Ted Baillieu said the new slogan built on the state's reputation as a world leader in the field of road safety.

Advertisement “We want to make sure that we keep road safety front and centre for every Victorian,” Mr Baillieu said today.

“What better place to reinforce road safety messages to motorists than on number plates.

“Last year 287 Victorians lost their lives and more than 5000 people sustained serious injuries on our roads,” he said.

He told the regional sitting of parliament in Ballarat that the message would act as a “constant reminder” to motorists to drive safely and remain focused.

Mr Baillieu said the new slogan came following public feedback and advice from the state's road safety agencies.

The new plates will appear on motor vehicles once the existing stock of plates is used up, which VicRoads expects will be early next year.

They will be in the same blue and white colour scheme as the current plates.

  2. They'd need to put front number plates on bikes to do that.

  11. Surprised they didn't go with, Victoria - The Nanny State.
  12. South Australia - Yes we're still here.
  13. South Australia - We've Got Fruchocs
  14. It's ridiculous, but as with most of these road safety ideas the people behind it will pat themselves on the back for coming up with it.

  18. Hey hey, SA is the benign state. The only profitable businesses in SA are the church and the insurance companies.

I still wonder why South Australians get insurance if nothing ever happens there?
  19. The slogan doesn't need to be catchy or clever..

I reckon it should just be truthful.

Victoria - Bend over, grab your ankles.
