Who amongst us are likely to be "stars" in these videos?

Police to target hoons in YouTube video campaign

ROGUE motorcycle riders could star in Victoria Police's first online video campaign targeting the dangerous hoons.
Police have told the Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader that there are plans to release footage on YouTube of successful Yarra Ranges police traffic operations.
The videos will capture highlights from their most recent campaign, Operation Surreptitious, that used military-style methods including combat fatigues, hiding in bushes, high-powered laser devices and binoculars to catch lawless motorcycle riders on the Black Spur road.
Yarra Ranges Insp Andrew Humberstone said it would be the first time that Victoria Police had used YouTube to fight crime.
“The police are looking at several opportunities to educate the public and create awareness of behaviours like dangerous driving,†Insp Humberstone said.
Victoria Police media officer Natalie Webster said police were only in the preliminary stages of reviewing how and when the TMU footage might possibly be used.
  2. There's the ability to post a reply to the article on the "Hun's" web site.

Can't wait to see the reactions. How many jail all the hoons and crush their bikes type replies will we get?

I suspect this is a bit of an ego boost for the cops involved. I really can't see it's going to serve as a deterrent - especially since there are significant privacy factors involved in showing identifying details.
  3. Oh FFS. Just another example of VP trying to show everyone what hardcore MFs they are. Law enforcement by intimidation.
They've lost me. I don't respect anything they have to say anymore.
  4. I wonder what John Rambo and John Matrix get paid for doing a days surveillance on the spur?
  5. When I posted that note it only had the link in the message. The message now has "code" in it.

How did this happen? Did someone edit my message, and if so, why?
  6. Because when you post a link to the article ALSO post the article using the code button, it makes it easier to read.
You are getting testy in your old age and also I didn't do it.
  7. WHO?
    I did it.

  8. You guys should really put a note in when you edit someone elses posts as it could open up some really interesting legal debates if you inadvertantly alter the context of some elses handy work.
  9. Using terms like rogue and lawless, whats next? Terrorist organisation, what a beat up.
  10. It is not a "criminal offence" to speed. It is simply a breach of a regulation.
Lets see how balanced these video's are. How many law abiding riders/drivers will be shown or will each and every shot be of outlaws?
  11. I would be mre concerned if the police publish footage of someone that is taking their matter to court and more importantly has not given concent.

If a person is guilty, the police can place the footage. if a person is contensting in court, then they are not guilty and as such must give permission....

Oooo, I can see the can, it has worms in it,......
  12. Appreciate that but if the OP posts according to the T&C's then no editing would need to be done and the problem removed before it can even be considered ;)

If it requires editing then it is removed and the op advised. They are given a copy of their post and asked to resubmit with the suggested alterations.

    We don't alter peoples text.
  13. from memory
ANY footage take on Public land can be publicly displayed without consent

  14. Hi Lady Rider.

True, but the way the article reads it talks about footage of people being booked (well, thats how I read it - could be wrong). So, if this is the case, then it is not public footage it is police file footage.

  17. Good find Vic

    very  interesting reading
  18. Usually a MOD: like this is what I use but this is a debate for site discussion.
In this case Vic just added the article and Martin cried.
  19. I think a couple of people have got hold of the wrong end of the, er, Tube.

VP are not proposing to take other peoples footage, they are talking about compiling something from their own existing footage and uploading it for their own purposes.

I doubt many of the 'performers' currently on YouTube have given formal consent for it to appear...
  20. Ok:

    (i) Consent.
Not needed. There is no right to privacy in this country! Any footage taken by any person in public is thier to use as they see fit, subject to the rules against p0rn etc of course. (they own copyright).

    (ii) Evidence in court cases.
If the person is booked / charged and accepts the penalty, there is no court case. Therefore no issue as to evidence.
Once again Vicpol own the footage!
