Valve Clearance Question

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Chollima, Jun 19, 2010.

  1. So I've been doing a service on my GS500 today, and for a first timer it went well, except one of my valve clearances is out of spec.

The clearance on one of my exhaust valves is 0.08-0.10mm, whereas it should be 0.03-0.08mm. What I want to know is: is this a 'I must get a shim and sort this out as soon as' situation or is it a 'Fark it, I'll leave it for the next service' situation?

    How important is 0.01mm?
  2. You're not going to damage anything by leaving it. Not by that much anyway. Loose is better than tight -especially on a multi cylinder engine. As the old saying goes, a noisy tappet is a happy tappet.
