ubuntu & nokia N95

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by vic, Jun 5, 2008.

  1. Folks,

Anyone out there know how to run ubuntu on a laptop and connect it to the net via a 3G mobile phone???

  2. Not a Linux expert and maybe you've already tried this, but here goes ...

I'd try different sequences as follows

    1. Plug the phone into the computer, turn on the phone and "activate" the internet, turn on computer and let it boot up, then try the Internet

    2. Turn on the computer and let it boot, turn on the phone and switch on the Internet, plug phone into computer ... test Internet

    3. Same as 2., but plug the phone into the computer first, then turn on the phone and switch on Internet

Other than that, try some of the Linux - or even Ubuntu - forums ... pretty good bet to find or get a solution there.
  3. the nokia is different to my old windows phone, it connects to the net via its own software.

They dont make software for *nix just doze.

I guess I need to find someone that has done it already and use their method

  4. Wicked.

Only thing is it's all Greek to me :)

Will d/l the kubuntu ISO and see how I go
  5. Shouldn't that make it a snap then?
  6. Lucky for you you have a Linux guy living 200m away.
