Tyre Measurements system?

Discussion in 'Scooters' started by Gibbz, Jun 4, 2008.

  1. Just wondering how the tyre measurement system works when looking at specs. For example...
    Front Tyre : 110/70-12

Is there a way to calculate tyre diameter from this?
  2. It's a 12" wheel with a 110mm wide tire which is 70% of that width high.

    Overall diameter is 305 + 2(0.7x110) = 459mm

That's in theory on a nominal width rim. The profile will flatten or pinch depending on the rim it goes on.
  3. A tyre retailer will have rolling radius specs for the tyres they sell.
devotard is probably correct in the calc and the explanation is spot on.
  4. ok cheers :)
