Truck crash on the Oxley Sunday..... some pics Whew! :-s......... it was nasty but,... it could've been a lot worse if he'd met someone coming up....... Going up, about 8k's west of Seaview you tip into a double lefthander which is followed by a tight 25kph uphill right to a short uphill straight........ This unladen (thankfully)low-loader has come down the straight, failed to take the 25k tight downhill left and plowed straight across, going bush..... missing a massive gum on his right with a girth of probably 5' or more he's plunged 40metres down thru the bush on a 60degree gradient, plowing all before him and coming to a stop approx 80 metres in.......at which point a decidedly tall2-3' gum decided to fall upon the stationary cab......... I can honestly say, if not for the young fella pulling up whilst travelling down and bringing it to the attention of others this guy could've lain there for days...........you dont notice anything going up....... its only coming down you see skid ... and a parting of the undergrowth at roads edge. Tow blokes were down at the cab when I pulled up... standing at the edge of the road lookin down, basically nothing was distinguishable,....... A young woman asked me "what is that down there"?..... to which I replied that it looked like two 5' long parts of some boardwalk over a gully creek... The only telltale was a small sumthin' approx 80m in, with with what looked like two small squarish windows (I thought immediately of a highroof landrover or something similar) bet then you think 'impossible' how could it get so far in there......there was just bush covering everything It was only when navigating my way down the embankment and standing on the 'boardwalk' I realised they were metal :-s...... hang on, there's wheels under them:-s Holy sheeet!!...I yelled to those above.. its a semi Making my way forward it was with some relief that I heard the lads talking to the driver.....thats one good thing.......... it looked like his face had made contact with just about every surface in the cab on the way down He hadnt been wearing his seatbelt..... would've been one hell of a ride[-( Anyways emergency services had been called........ ended up with about 5 of them out there in due course plus and ambo and 2 HWP... so me'thinks the mountain would've been closed for a few hours.......... Later on while at Long Flat I saw one of those heavy vehicle recovery towtrucks heading out............my guess is he'd've got there, looked down the hole and gone, "Nup, not this lil' black duck" Driver is serious but stable, head and chest injuries... but luckily..... alive And nobody else was a hood ornament on the ride to the bottom.
