The 20-year-old Berry man was injured when his bike crashed after he tried to make a jump at Bowral yesterday, NRMA Careflight said. His friends put him into a car and drove him to Bowral Hospital where it was revealed he had a broken vertebra in his neck and a torn larynx. The friends were stunned to learn their actions could have left their companion a quadriplegic, Careflight said. Staff at Bowral Hospital called CareFlight's specialist medical retrieval team to fly the man to Liverpool Hospital where he was in a serious condition. NRMA CareFlight urged people not to drive anyone suffering a neck injury following a crash to hospital themselves but to phone triple-0.
