News Toby Price well-placed in Dakar

  1. AUSSIE Toby Price (KTM) is well placed in the Dakar Rally and is well in contention to win the event.
With the first leg cancelled due to weather, Price won leg two and struggled with GPS difficulties, cars and spectators in leg three to lose time, but despite this he is only a few minutes behind the leaders with a long way to go in the world’s most famous enduro rally.

Price said of the problems “That killed the confidence a bit so I backed it off because I didn’t want to cartwheel or hit anything. But it’s a long race and today cost me a bit of time but I’m still in a good overall position and I’m happy about that. We’re still good and we’ll sort it out tomorrow.”

Price said stage two been a clean stage and he was happy with the result. “It was a long day in the saddle but for sure it’s started well for us. Today was really easy navigation and we had a few tracks we could see, plus the route was pretty well marked.” But the Australian cautioned that there was a long way to go as Stage 2 was effectively to first day of competition following Sunday’s cancelation.

“You’ve got to have a perfect race go your way for the two weeks. Realistically it’s day one, so we’ve got a long way to go. We’ve just got to make sure we keep cool, calm and collected. It’s good to get one stage win out of the way, but we’re looking forward to being smooth and consistent the rest of the week and see how we go.”
