Thoughts on the 1985 Yamaha XT as a commuter

Discussion in 'Bike Reviews, Questions and Suggestions' at netrider.net.au started by timbo79, May 15, 2009.

  1. Hey everyone just wondering what the Yamaha 1985 xt trilbikes are like for general reliability and power will be using on the freeway as a commute

    Thax all

  2. You can't generalize with a bike that's more than 20 years old.

In their day the early XT's were a good bike, but seriously... for reliabilty and everyday use... look for something a bit more recent.
  3. thanx for that ZRX1200R. the reason is i dont have the money to spend and for around $900 thought it might be ok to get from my house in werribee to the city for work. can you suggest anything else around the $900 make which might be better??
  4. Mate you can do better these days

Edit: Just saw your reply and I think $1000 for what you want is asking for reliability issues.
You may strike gold but you'll go through a lot of quartz first.
  5. Pretty awesome bike mate.

Parts are okay, and you should be fine if it's in good condition.

But like ZRX said, for everyday commuting look for a Scorpio or something like that.
