The Front Bar

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by BLABBUS TOOLICUS, Nov 13, 2012.

  1. Anyone else lament the loss of the old style front bar.
The old smoky atmosphere with a barmaid and pool tables.
A place where people simply talked and drank.
    Shit was given and taken.
Fools were dispatched without the need for bouncers.
    I do.

  2. Yup, porkies have f....d that.
  3. They still exist Blabbs, but you need to get a long, long way from here to find them.
  4. There is a FEW still around.
  5. Im not smart enough to do anologies.
  6. Bars with live music, no door nazis, no pokies, a good selection of beers served with NO FLAIR and no wankers in 'em.
It's been a while since I've seen one of those. Feeling old now.
  7. Oh yes, but out of the 20-odd thousand I have access to, I could probably count less than twenty that I'd bother walking in...
  8. cough cough , who the feck
    is smoking
  9. When you could go for a snake's hiss leaving your wallet, keys and smokes on the bar and they would still be there when you returned and no one pinched your bar stool.
  10. Country pubs are the closest you can get these days.
  11. Where women didn't get drugged, only pissed.
  12. got the cheers music stuck in my head now
  13. Line your 20c bits up on the pool table and not have some junkie pinch them.
  14. Gawd, I used to be a barmaid in bars like that. Geez that was a long time ago.
  15. I married the barmaid from a bar like that.
  16. Yep,used to walk in,stick 20 on the bar,pull up a stool.
The barmaid would refill you and take the cash, leave the change.
Go for a piss-money still there.
You could carry on for hours and when ever you looked around you had a beer.
    Tipping was normal then.
  17. I never married one.
  18. 18 years and counting - no complaints here.
  19. I used to work the bars mostly during the day. Amazing the same characters that would come in every day. I remember one old guy, a bit of a hobo, certainly an alchoholic would come in at 10am every day and have two brandies with beer chasers. Then he'd wander out again. Never more than two.
  20. Beers at 1994 prices-awesome.
