Suzuki VL250 Brake caliper scratches rotor

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by pokko, Dec 4, 2010.

  1. Hi
I recently bought a 2003 Suzuki Intruder 250, after few rides I noticed the front brake caliper scratch the rotor (inner side). Is it likely to indicate some kind of damage or just wheel misalignment? Is it acceptable to put a couple of washers (0.5-1.0 mm) between the fork and the rotor to add clearance (at least until the service is due for a mechanic to have a look)

  2. Does it catch the disc the ENTIRE circumference around or only in spots?

If only in certain spots, then you likely have a warped disc. Not sure if wheel misaligned someone else will have to weigh in.

If your disc is scratching the entire length, check whether the caliper is in good condition and mounted correctly.
  3. If your caliper is contacting the rotor, you have either a warped disk, or mis-aligned component. Rotor or wheel will both do that.

Take it in and get it looked at. Adding washers is not the way to fix a brake issue.
