Suzuki GS500 cluster/tacho with engine swap

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' at netrider.net.au started by tezza88, Feb 21, 2016.

  1. Hi guys,
I've recently purchased a 1997 Suzuki GS500 which had the engine swapped out for the 2007 model.

One of the major differences is it is an oil cooled engine now.
My problem is the tacho doesn't work now. I was told by the seller that the new engine is electronic so there isnt a cable for the tach.
Would anyone know how I could get the tach to work? or should I just hit the wreckers and get a 2007 cluster or aftermarket one?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. is it all the gaugss that don't work or rpm/speedo?
  3. Only the rpm side isn't working. it's also unplugged. I was told the engine is electronic from 2003 onwards and so the speedo works fine but the rev side could not be plugged into the head
  4. Get an 07 cluster. Not even that expensive. Or better yet ignore the issue its such a noisy engine your ears can be the tacho.
