Getting the suspension rebuilt on my XV1600, and was curious as to the best method to do the front. I'll be adding about 200lbs to the rear spring, and then getting the front shocks re-oiled, wherein lies my question. The mechanics have said I have 2 options: the first is to leave the forks on the bike, suck out as much oil as possible, and then refill with the heavier-grade oil. The other option is to take the forks off, strip, drain and refill. Obviously, one method is more expensive than the other, although both are within budget. Is the latter option a better option, or will it not make a great deal of difference in the end? I'm particularly interested in the ride quality AND the mechanical soundness of the work for each method. Thanks!
