Spark Plugs

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by Wally2, Jun 16, 2007.

  1. I have a 1982 XS650 SH
When the engine is running if you remove the right spark plug the engine stalls but not if you remove the left one is this a carby tunning problem or is there another problem
    Can anyone HELP

  2. most likely a spark or compression issue

grab a spare plug , stick the left plug lead on the plug , stick the plug onto the engine and start the bike, do you see a spark ?

of course you could have a carb issues ,

what is the problem you are having ?
  3. Compression on both sides is 145 psi

The carby problem is a long story but my problem is now when idling of to stop the engine will stay at high revs & come down slowly but at other times it will stay high reving up to 3000 rpm at a stand still.

What I have found is to elevate this when it happens is to screw out the idle screw on the carby then the revs settle down but this is only temporary.I have orded new carby inlet manifolds as I may be sucking air

I am blowing a huge amount of black smoke (Running Rich I understand)
I have cleaned the carby & reset the needle one notch up to see if this also helps
  4. yep sounds like its sucking air
