Solar Panel solution to prevent a flat battery for $30

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' at netrider.net.au started by pvda, Feb 12, 2007.

  1. Many of you have a bike (or car) which sits in a garage or out of the way and is only used on weekends for various reasons. Now sitting around not being used is not good for the battery and have found this product which should eliminate the problem.

Of course you need access to direct sunlight so it wont help if you put it into a garage with no windows BUT you could always rig up an extension lead arrangement and throw the Solar Panel up on the roof or bolted to sun facing wall.

The Solar Panel works by converting sunlight into an electrical current at 12v which you connect across the "charged" battery on your bike or car and it slowly trickles a small charge current into the battery to keep it topped up.

It cannot recharge a flat battery as it's only designed to keep charged batteries topped up.

Altronics is Perth based but has expanded to have stores & dealers all over the place. The Melbourne Store is located on Dandy Rd between Springvale & Westall Roads.

Hope this is useful to a few of you out there on the WWW

  2. My father is a tinkerer. Especially with electornic's!

He made ome up for me, works quite well and cost about $20 all up so the kit (?) at $33 is OK!

Its only 1 to 1.5 amps so needs to be left on if you hardly use the car/bike
