Shortening Carbon Fibre Exhaust

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' started by Jez79, Feb 14, 2008.

  1. Hi All, I ride a 99 ZX6R with a Carbon Fibre exhaust. I have noticed that the carbon is starting to wear through near the back end and produces a bit of a rattle. Also, to get a bit more noise, was thinking of shortening the can, but not sure how tricky it is.. Looking for opinions on the matter if anyone has any ideas?? If its a really stupid idea, feel free to advise.

I have the stock exhaust to fall back on if it all goes pear shaped.

    Cheers, Jez79

  2. CF will tend to split at the rivets over time due to vibration

i would trim off an inch and reinforce with stainless steel strap then re-rivet
  3. If you are slightly mechanically minded, just have a crack, it's not that hard. Did mine in one night, just start slowly and think twice before cutting anything that can't be replaced.
