Servicing my XVS1100A

Discussion in 'Maintenance and Servicing' at netrider.net.au started by middo, Aug 19, 2011.

  1. I am about to do the 20,000 km service on my Yamaha XVS1100A cruiser myself, and have purchased the Climer manual to guide me. It suggests doing compression checks on the cylinders. How important is this?

Are there any special tools needed for a service, and anything I should look out for in particular?

    Any help is appreciated.
  2. compression test is keep an eye on your motor and if any problems have arisen, lower compressin [within limits] could indicated various problems, you need a compression tool / gauge, when you remove the spark plug you ram this gauge in to where you normally screw the spark plug in, gauge has a rubber base to protect the thread, crank the engine a few times while holding/forcing the gauge in and you'll get the reading.
