Rode new bike home

Discussion in 'New Riders and Riding Tips' started by Peter62, Jan 12, 2016.

  1. Hi All,

Rode my new bike home today. It's a Yamaha YZF-R3 and rides like a dream.

I bit nervous as still on my L's and shiny new tyres, but enjoyed the ride by the time I got up some speed.

  13. Congratulationos, Peter62Peter62 ! I've only got a few days on mine, and finding any excuse to go ride. I spent years on a scooter, and I'm finding that some of that experience translates - but some things are totally different. So I'm riding like an L-plater for now at least :D

  19. how do you even mentally prepare to ride a brand new bike from a dealership home with no experience....
having only driven cars and ridden push bikes when i was a wee lad. I would just be worried about dropping it because no experience....
  20. Welcome to the site Blackers. You have to ride it eventually, your L test should have gotten you to the stage where you have the basic skillset but even so that first ride in traffic home can be traumatic. You have a few options.

Ask the Dealer or seller to deliver it?
Ask a bike riding friend to ride it home for you. (Check your insurance coverage for other riders first)
Ride it yourself, try and arrange an escort with bike or car to keep people off your tail. Pick quiet roads and a quiet time of day to do your ride home.

When you get a chance go and introduce your self in the Welcome Lounge. It is the custom around here when you join and it helps your account upgrade to member quicker.
