rear sprocket help

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' started by dje, Sep 1, 2008.

  1. hey... just wondering if its possible to get a bigger rear sprocket without having to change the front sprocket or chain...?

  2. Yes. You might have to move your axle forward a bit using the chain slack adjusters to give yourself enough room to fit the new larger sprocket, but provided you're only going up 3 teeth or so you're unlikely to need a new chain.
  3. thanks for the speedy reply loz.
yeah i heard i might need to up the chain guard a bit too so it doesnt scrape.
    thanks for the info!
  4. depending on how old your chain and front sprocket are id be replacing them also, because you may have wear issues with the chain fitting the new sprocket of it has streached and bedded in too far.
