Query Re Honda 'Flat Spot'

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' started by Jez79, Feb 13, 2007.

  1. Hi All,

My girlfriends bike (1983 VT250F) has a flat spot when you go to accelerate. This has only happened recently and I'd like to know if it's a simple adjustment or one to leave to the mechanics.

Sometimes when engine is warm and you are over 5k rpm etc and pull up at the lights it sits up at 3000 rpm unless you put it in gear and let the clutch out a little, then it drops back to idle at approx 1000 - 1200 rpm. It has been doing this for longer than the first query

    Would these conditions be related?

    Cheers, J.
  2. sounds a lot like strip and rebuild the carbies time

1 Possible punctured CV carb diaphrams

    2 Water in Carb

3 Sticky / worn slide of the piston

4 Needle an Seat for float bowl has the height been set

    5 sticky / damaged cable

These are the things i would be looking for

    Good luck
  3. Reads like the carbies need a good service. check, clean, kit (if available) and a sync.
