[QLD] Queensland reduces road toll by 29%

Discussion in 'Politics, Laws, Government & Insurance' started by robsalvv, Dec 7, 2010.

  1. Check out the fact sheet located at the link below - but the head line is that basically, the QLD road toll is 87 less that the same time last year.

Motorcycle fatalities have been reduced by 38.2% following introduction of LAMS, pillion restrictions and provisional license tweaks.

Apparently deaths involving speeding and/or alcohol have been reduced by 40%.

These numbers are all compared to the previous 12months. Don't get me wrong - that is a great reduction and is to be applauded, but I predict an addiction to enforcement and a ramp up of the road safety industry - as we've seen in Victoria.

  2. Sadly rob, I think you're right.
  3. It is because of the new covert speed cameras:---)
  4. Yep, it is the speed cameras for sure.
When I was in Brisbane recently there seemed to be a speed camera car every few k's and that is not counting the numerous covert camera cars or the numerous bike cops or Q cars or the traffic cops with handheld camera Lidar etc etc.
Qld is second only to Victoria when it comes to traffic surveillance/cameras.
  5. It's just a statistical anomaly, last year was a particularly bad year and this year is a particularly good year. Move along.... It has very little to do with enforcement/legislation etc... although the powers that be will try to make sure it's touted as being the case. Can't win - if the road toll is up, we've ****ed up, if it's down, we've still ****ed up because it COULD BE LOWER!

  6. Just wait till next year when it goes back to average....
  7. Then out come the "WE NEED MORE SPEED CAMERAS" ](*,)
  8. so what you are saying is that in QLD, with a lower road toll they will ramp up the enforcement in all areas, in VIC with a higher road toll they will ramp up the enforcement in all areas, and presumably in NSW, with an inept corrupt govt, they will ramp up enforcement in all areas ( but stuff it up ! )....

    NSW, going places!
  9. If the road toll is low, they will say : the cameras are working !! we must install more to lower the road toll further.
If the road toll is high, they will say : the cameras are not working !! so we must install more cameras to lower the road toll
In any instance, road toll low or high: we must install more cameras as they are great little money spinners for general revenue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Speed cameras are better than the Casinos ! The House always wins.
  10. That's about it, yep.
