(OT) Website design check: Suade.net

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by Loz, Jul 26, 2006.

  1. Guys

I've spent the last couple days with my "unemployed bum half-arsed web designer" hat on, knocking up a new Suade website. It's about 90% done, I might stick a new frontpage on it instead of the redirect that's there right now.

Just wanted to get a few peoples' thoughts on it, if you've got time... Particularly on the design etc. www.suade.net

Probably a few glitches and stuffups in there, let me know if you find any and I'll iron those out as we go. I've got more photos to put in the gallery, will do that tomorrow.

I'm orf to the pub now, will check later to see if anyone's had any comments.

    Looks great mate
Just a few things i noticed

    * - A clue to what type of music it is (just from looking at the front page)
    * - love the "join the mailing list - and we'll spam you" lol rofl
    * - The only big thing i noticed was when the site loaded it displayed a different pic at the top - then after 2secs (when it had fully loaded) the page refreshed with a different photo. Is this meant to happen?
Maybe its just my comp messing up - but i thought i would mention it. Otherwise it looks nice!
  3. I like the clean 'white' look, Loz,. loads quickly too.
  4. Great site Loz.
Never realised you were on X-factor. :p I remember it now tho.
Good to be able to have a listen to you guys. Gonna have to get a copy of the CD off you.
  5. Thanks guys!

Oliver - yeah that redirect is beause the homepage redirects immediately to the latest news page, whick is held at diaryland.com. I'm working on ideas on how to stop that from being such a clunky redirect. Should be easy enough with what I'm thinking of.

I'm also a bit iffy about the 2nd level navigation (like the "about" section) but I don't have any thoughts on how I might do that better.

    Cheers for your input fellas!

/And yeah Dave you can get a copy online or remind me to bring one down to coffee.
  6. Great stuff Loz ... you should be proud.
Use dynamic DHTML drop-down for the 2nd level menu.
  7. Good work Loz, looks great man!
  8. Nice site, but; ;)
Personally i think the left menu is too close to the text.
Also, I'd agree with loose the white, but if thats to go with the top picture then keep it.
And, are the links ment to work? :p

  9. looks alot better than it did before loz :D
    much easier to navigate aswell.
  10. site looks great, and love the xfactor cip
  11. :? OK.... when i wrote the above comment the site was still the one with white background and links on left and right side of the screen, with text in between... :?

That one at diaryland looks pretty neat :)
  12. Ahem yeah we were off our game with the singing there, kinda hard with so much noise going on around us - but hopefully I made up for it by giving one of the Pablo boys a nice wedgie.
  13. Yeah I was tossing that up... Not sure it will fit though, I'd have to do some sort of rollover effect with the existing top nav... Might play around with that. But the left subnav definately needs a kick up the arse.
  14. Yup, that's DHTML and what I meant.

Dump it, and just use the DHTML across the top
  15. Jesus Jase that took AGES!
  16. Hope you didn't re-invent the wheel.....plenty of libraries out there that will sort it out for you nice and easy.

I've used this without too much trouble.
