Oil for my 2008 Yamaha R6

Discussion in 'Maintenance and Servicing' at netrider.net.au started by alexjennings, Jun 28, 2014.

  1. G'day all,
Its time to do my first oil change on my R6. I'm not sure what oil is currently in her, but my owners manual recommends,
    SAE10W-30 or SAE20W-40

However I cant seem to find any oil with these specifactions at supercheap/repco (i have yet to poke my head in the bike shop)

    supercheap does have
Castrol Power 1 GPS Motorcycle Oil - 10W-40, 4 Litre

    Would this suffice?

  2. Yeah mate that oils fine
  3. Should be fine. I use fuchs silkolene comp 10w/40 in my cbr6 and gsxr6.

Just make sure you drain all the existing out - and from the oil filter. I normally slacken off the filter cold and nip, same with the sump plug and nip. Run the bike for a few minutes to warm the oil so it's less viscous then drain when it's cool enough to do without getting burnt.

Dont forget to fill the filter with new oil when you replace.
  4. just be thankful you arent looking for 10w~50
