Oil for gearbox...

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' started by rodgonzbea, Nov 4, 2009.

  1. Hi..my apologies for the question..if its too basic.. but i need to know.. I have single cyl srx250 '85, 4 stroke.. now.. does the gearbox have a different (separate) lubrication system? or is it all part of the same system.. ie if I change oil & filter in the engine i will also change the oil that lubricates the gearbox?? also Ive read the threads on oil 4 the bike... but mine is an old fossil... in Adelaide it gets quite hot.. would i be better with 20/40 or synthetic oil?

  2. AFAIK the engine and gearbox share the same oil. Synthetic oil would be a complete waste of money on such an old, relatively low-performance engine. Look for a good brand (MOTUL, Shell) that has a specific oil FOR older engines.
  3. Well thank you sir.....
