oil cap stuck on HD 883 Sportster

Discussion in 'Technical and Troubleshooting Torque' at netrider.net.au started by Puff, Jan 30, 2009.

  1. Hi folks,

I check my oil level about once a week. 2 days ago when I got home after a ride I went to check the oil and found the cap was really difficult to get out. It popped up fine when I pressed it, but after a half turn it was really difficult to move it around and get out. I checked the oil and put it back.

Last night I thought I would check it again and found that after I popped the cap up but I couldn't turn it at all. I'm not worried about the oil level as it was fine 2 days ago but wondered if this could be caused by the head, or the caps are known to get stuck?

    Cheers,

    Jeff

  2. I'm a little confused about the mechanism from your description. Have you got a photo?

Reads like a crossed thread, but a photo may clarify.

  3. Sporties have a big rubber thingy there, which has probably grown a bit.

  4. sorry my first post should have said "I'm wondering if it's caused by the heat" not head.

On the weekend I checked it again and it's coming in and out fine.
