A NEW SOUTH WALES policewoman shot in the abdomen with her service revolver by a man who jumped a police-station counter will make a full recovery, Commissioner Ken Moroney said.

Constable Elizabeth Roth, 34, was on duty at Wetherill Park police station when the man, who was known to police, jumped the counter about 6.30am (AEDT) today and snatched her pistol.
The man turned the weapon on Const Roth, who was working alone in the southwestern Sydney station, shooting her once.

The man escaped with the gun and is now being hunted by police.

Mr Moroney today said Const Roth, a former bank officer, managed to raise the alarm over police radio and alert a highway patrol officer who happened to be in the station at the time.

Mr Moroney confirmed Const Roth, who had been staffing the desk alone in the hours before the attack, had been shot with her own gun.

  2. A friend told me of a mentally distrubed person grabbing a cops gun while being admitted to a hospital, the cop said that it is about once a week she hears of it happening. (not shooting, but grabing)
