    Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council - Members (72513)

    Applications are now open for two new members of the Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council.
    Members contribute to the Council's strategic role advising ACC on the use of the Motorcycle Safety Levy, and ensure delivery on Council's strategic and business plans to reduce motorcycle and moped injuries and fatalities.
    If you are passionate about motorcycling, have a strong set of business skills and are an excellent communicator then we would like to hear from you.
    The appointments will commence in early 2014, and be for a two-year term. The role is part time; estimated 12-16 days per year. Members must be available to attend bi-monthly meetings in Wellington, as well as undertake other functions representing the Council in their local area.
    Please note that while all applications will be considered, the Council has expressed a specific interest in appointing new members with connections to motorcycling communities in the South Island and Upper North Island.
    Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council
    The Motorcycle Safety Levy was introduced by Government in July 2010. The Motorcycle Safety Levy funds a motorcycle and moped safety programme to reduce motorcycle and moped injuries and fatalities (the MSL Programme).
    The Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council oversees the operation of the MSL Programme by:
    • developing the MSL Programme's strategic plan with a three to five year horizon
    • identifying initiatives for Motorcycle Safety Levy funding and making recommendations to ACC
    • monitoring the performance and outcomes of the MSL Programme.
    Council members' role
    Council members' role is to contribute their particular perspective and ideas informed by their involvement in motorcycling communities, to identify opportunities to reduce the number and/or cost of injuries that occur to riders and pillions on motorcycles and mopeds.
    Each member of the Council must contribute to the effective design and planning of the MSL Programme by working effectively with the motorcycling sector, government agency partners, the Council as a whole, and the Council Secretariat.
    Skills and experience expected of Council members
    Council members are required to bring a range of relevant knowledge and experience to the Council in one or more of the following areas:
    • motorcycling and concepts around making motorcycling safer
    • financial management
    • working with communities/NGO organisations
    • commerce, marketing, and communications
    • relationship management
    • governance and public sector management
    • a good appreciation of the role and responsibility of the Council.

    Timeframes for the appointment process
    Applications must be received by ACC by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 15 November 2013.
    Interviews for short listed applicants are scheduled for Thursday, 12 December 2013, and will be held in Wellington. Interested applicants should ensure they are available to attend an interview if required.
