noob - getting my first bike in 1 week

Discussion in 'Welcome Lounge' at netrider.net.au started by mechanism, Feb 25, 2012.

  1. hey everyone, I have been lurking a little in these forums lately so i decided i better join and say hello.

I'm really excited because i am getting my first bike (if they get it in and ready for me) in 1 weeks time (Sat 3rd March).

It will be a Suzuki Intruder VL 250. I am especially excited because it is (in my opinion) the best looking and one of the best reviewed 250 cruisers on the market next to the Virago. I prefer the Intruder over the Virago besause of that low seat and just general PHATTNESS vibe it has.

This is the first time i have ever been able to buy a brand new motor vehicle of any sort, so that is also an exciting factor, let alone the particular one i like the best (not having to settle for one that is like the one i want).

Having never ridden before my learners coarse last week (which i aced pretty easily but not without nervousness), does anyone have any handy tips for me while learning to ride in the real world?

    Cheers 8-[
  2. Welcome mechanism and congratulations on de-lurking. It is a great feeling getting a new bike so I know how you feel. Where abouts are you?

There will be lots of specific advice from other riders here on the actual mechanics of riding a bike but the best bit of advice I can give is that this is an adventure that you are setting out on, take your time to develop skills and never get to the stage where you think there is nothing more to learn. Keep the shiny side up. :) Good Luck.
  3. Thanks CJVFR, my name is also Chris and I live in melbourne

  15. Welcome to Netrider.

Only advice I have is practise as much as possible and try to not get too overzealous in the first few months. Overconfidence is probably the thing that brings most new riders down.

If you are sensible, take it easy and learn everything you can you are going to have a blast.
