Nickel plating.. How much?

Discussion in 'Bling and Appearance' at netrider.net.au started by nice2Bnaked, Mar 16, 2007.

  1. Looking at several ideas for coating.
For a frame and swingarm, does anyone have a clue for cost of electro/nickel/chrome plating?
I've rung for quotes, and everyone says to bring it in to have a look at. The frame/swinger are stripped and clean.

  2. they probably want you to bring it in because of determining the difficulty of coating something that's an odd shape... i hope you get more responses because i like your question and i'm curious too

  3. You could do it yourself.

Most companies will either want to see the component or have a drawing of it.

  6. theres a couple of hobby supliers in Aussie i can find, that guy from WA and another one in NSW.

to make it echonomical you realy need a project to do, buying the gear for a dozen items just aint worth it.

To get schmiko finishes you also need a few other odds and sods like a bench grinder with wire wheel, and polishing mop and also say a 4" grinder with a scotch pad wheel

  7. Yep nickel/cobalt plating is good but it's still not as good as autocatylitic (or electroless) nickel plating - that produces a much harder and thinner coating with a brighter finish. It also avoids the yellowness you get with NiCo plating (unless you want that effect).

They offer a complete break down service which you may, or may not find handy. Ride in, ride out with bling!

I looked into the same thing about 12 months ago. I eventually found it cost prohibitive...

I guess that, at the end of the day, the cash was better invested in my "Daytona 675" fund....
