newbie clutch problems

Discussion in 'New Riders and Riding Tips' at netrider.net.au started by mybike123, Jan 15, 2005.

  1. Hi guys great forum.I am located in newcastle i currently am on my p's and ride a xt 600 yamaha.Have been told by a mate that my clutch is slipping(i had no idea myself) he says that the plates are worn?..My question: how much should this cost to fix?Do i need to go through a yam dealer or would a bike maintenance shop do.....or possibly a wrecker?..Many thanks for your time.

  2. Either your mate doesn't know any better or you don't
    (I'm betting it's your mate)
If the clutch was slipping then you would know.
First thing to do is check and lube the clutch cable and adjust accordingly.
One of the main things you will notice when you adjust the clutch cable is how much easier it will be to change gears.
Don't assume the clutch is foobar because a mate told you and you haven't noticed.
May also help to change the oil in the bike.
I think your clutch is in the same oil bath as the engine so a change of clean oil will make a difference as well.
