Newbie Advice - Non Leather Gear

Discussion in 'Riding Gear and Bike Accessories/Parts' at netrider.net.au started by KiwigalSal, Oct 28, 2011.

  1. Hi Guys

have a leather jacket and I am pretty sure it'll be far too hot over summer so I'm looking for advice in terms of buying something more lightweight but still safe. Any ideas?

Also thought I'd look at wet weather gear at the same time - your thoughts would be appreciated in relation to this too.

    Thanks.

  2. Rjays textile design jackets are pretty good.. some have armor and come with wet weather gear inserts as well

  3. mesh jacket.
safe ? = better than nothing
pros = feels like you are wearing nothing, plus have protection from sun and win burn, dehydration
cons = just nowhere near the protection of leather. considered a one crash only item. ie if you bin it, jacket may be ruined. hopefully holds up long enough to save your skin

some are better than others, some are exceptionallly good for a higher price tag.

  4. Some of the better mesh jackets are considerably stronger than leather, most are not.

I've got a Motoport Kevlar Mesh jacket that comes with a guarantee that the jacket will be repaired or replaced if you take it for a tumble - I've tested this, and after a decent slide down a rough section of concrete road the only repairs needed were to the reflective trim that had worn through....the Kevlar mesh was completely undamaged.
