New exhaust, sounds like a wilderbeast

Discussion in 'Modifications and Projects' started by Avoidable, Jan 9, 2009.

  1. So I've fitted a jardine gp1 to the gsxr.

Sounds nice it made this nice gurgling noise when backing off, fully closing or sitting on steady throttle down a hill. The howl it emitted was doing my head in at certain rpm though, some sort of resonance it sets up, so I installed the baffle.

With the baffle in the gurgling is gone, replaced by a popping noise. I didn't like this much, made me start to think about what the flow rates with the new pipe might be doing to the, um, exhaust valves or something. I know the baffle probably just altered the gurgle to a pop.

So I ripped out the baffle and now I'm back to riding something that sounds like a grumpy moose when I roll off. Which I like

So finally to my question, can any harm come of altering the flow of the exhaust from stock?

The pipe is nothing but straight through off the cat with a rough 2' diameter at the cat connection.
