Hello all, So about 2 weeks ago I bought my first bike after doing the Stay Upright pre-learner course. Hopefully I can attach a picture - it is a red & black Honda CB500FA - 2014 model with only 4.1K on the clock and seemed in excellent condition. After 10 days abroad I am just back and took it out twice today for some practice (having only ever ridden 2 weeks ago). All seems to be going fairly smoothly at the moment - bike seems rather forgiving and easy to use - I'm really liking the clutch, much smoother than the CB125s and a friends Suzuki 250 and the biting point is quite early which I like. I'm taking things pretty easy for now and not accelerating too hard until I get a bit more practice - I felt a little embarrassed that the Sydney bus was going faster than me for a decent stretch 2 weeks back but I felt a little more comfortable with a bit more juice today. Had one slightly unnerving moment where I was flapping my elbows a bit, as advised to loosen the grip on the bars, when I went over a pothole I hadn't spotted due to some glare on the road - just as my hands were extremely loose on the bars, immediately causing me to grab on hard and inadvertently giving it a bit of decent throttle and pitching me back a bit more than was comfortable. Am looking to get out on it as much as possible over the coming weeks now. I searched and couldn't find a decent answer to this question specific to my area in Sydney - does anyone know somewhere good to practice in the Eastern Suburbs - an empty industrial estate may sound like an obvious answer but I actually can't seem to find one without having to travel miles out - I hope to make it out to Homebush next week for the learner session but that is also farther than I have gone to date (not having driven in Sydney before and not knowing the routes and roads adds to the size of the task in getting out there ) If any mentor or experienced rider based around eastern Sydney has some time I would love to get feedback on a number of things also - otherwise I'll wait to see how often I can get out to Homebush also. Really enjoying it so far and NR seems like a great community.
