Netrider newbie

  1. Hey everyone,

My name is Michael. I'm 20 and I just got into riding. I've always wanted to ride a motorbike, so I took a learner course with HART, got my L's, and bought my first bike last week! It's a blue 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

I live around the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, and have just been riding it around our local area for the past few days. I was hoping to get in touch with some experienced riders around my area - especially since I dropped the bike for the first time today! I'll have a look through the forums to see where I can do this. Anyway, just saying hello, and I look forward to learning alot from the netrider community :)

  2. Heaps of good info here for new riders. And heaps of opportunities to ride with other people.

I had a Ninja until recently - lots of fun and a good bike to learn on.

    Welcome aboard.

  3. Ahh bummer that you dropped it. How did it happen?

Come around to a Tuesday Learner ride. It's heaps of fun!

Also I'd recommend the Saturday morning practice sessions, they really help you a lot and you get excellent advice from veteran netriders there.

Respective links to the topics: Tuesday and Saturday.

If you are comfortable riding around then you should have no trouble with these two. There is no "order" in which you need to do netrider rides in, so don't feel that you need to do a Saturday practice before you go on a ride. My first netrider event was the Tuesday ride :)

Have fun, and see you around!

  4. I was practicing emergency braking in an empty car park and I locked the front wheel toward the end of the brake...yeah I know - it must sound like a real noob thing to do but seeing as it's my first motorbike mishap I can't get it out of my head!!

The Saturday practice session looks really good; not sure how confident I am to get the bike down to St.Kilda though. Might try and ask around to see if anyone from my area is also going, and I can maybe tag along.

Thanks for the advice and the welcome!:)

  5. Hi Mike and welcome to NR

We have a few people in the West who attend the Saturday practice so we may be able to escort you there. Again it helps if people know a little more exactly where you are.

And if you are not confident enough to ride to St Kilda yet i would recommend staying away from the Tuesday ride for the time being.

  9. Welcome to NR, Mike. It should be ok this year, and hopefully won't be as wet as last year.
