My Hornet

Discussion in 'Showcase' at netrider.net.au started by gongrider, Apr 12, 2012.

  1. As some of you will be aware, I acquired hornet's famous Hornet 600 from him earlier this week.

Haven't been on it since I test rode it, it's sitting at my folks' place for a couple of weeks. Will pull the carbies off and try to sort the cold starting difficulties.

Looking forward to getting out on it in a couple of weeks!

Might need a new username... hornetthe2nd?

  5. More to the point, what is Hornet going to call himself now? Should I start a poll?? :)
Oh, good buy, by the way.

  6. You'll enjoy it, they're an admirable bike, and if you sell it in fine running condition then it you'll get the same back...free riding!

  7. For such an old bike, the outside appearance looks pretty top.

Good luck with the carbs. It's a nice feeling when you open them up and see a whole lot of gunk ("Ah, problem solved!"). But I seem to remember that the previous owner put a new (ie used) set of carbs on it quite recently, so I'd be surprised if they needed cleaning?

  8. Here's the 'goodbye' pictures taken when David picked up the bike;

(I know, don't get your shadow in the picture!)

As for the carbies, yes, I DID replace them with a set from a bike that had only done 33,000 kms, but I didn't manage to get them tuned correctly. David has seen the bike cold start, and he knows there's a problem, but he's confident he and some friends can resolve it.

As for Dave's username, he could always call himself 599, as per the custom tank decals

Seriously, if he has half as wonderful a time with old blue as I did then he still will have as much fun as it's legal to have .

  10. No, not custom-made, and not a stunt-cage

Engine protection bars, purchased from www.renntec.co.uk

Cost me $200 back in 2006; $100 for the bars and $100 freight (ouch!!)

  11. You mean you had twice as much fun as is legal?

    You publish this admission?

  12. I don't think the Hornet would DO twice the legal amount of fun, but I DO remember one afternoon up near Walcha when it did 1.86 times the legal amount of fun

    awesome- you'll enjoy the hornet.

Straight away you need to saw off the mud guard below the number plate.

And then install a danmoto pipe (only $80)

Will make a huge difference to looks and sound :)
