Mugello on an R1

Discussion in 'Multimedia' started by cookeetree, Sep 19, 2007.

  1. Nice little vid. Don't know who the rider is, who the other guys on the track are, or what the other guys are riding, but he seem to leave 'em all for dead, even going around them on turns.

WARNING! The sound is very loud! Turn your speakers down before playing.

  2. Looks to me like a regular mixed group track day. The guy on the R1 (the camera) is effectively a "Fast Group" rider circulating with "Slow Group" riders.

This is exactly why most track days in Oz are split into groups roughly based around people's ability, just to avoid the whole very high closing speed thing that occurs between very fast and very slow riders.
  3. Yeah, figured it was something like that. Thanks for the input.
  4. Okay, the guy cut a ~2m18s lap. The MotoGP boys do it in 1m50s (race times)

At PI, a very fast track day regular (as opposed to a racer which are quicker again by a fair way) on a bike like an R1 will get around in under 1m45s, while the MotoGP boys will do it in just over 1m30s, so that's about a 15% difference. So for Mugello, 1m50s (110 secs) => 110 x 1.15 = ~2m07s would make for a very fast track day regular, and the guy in the video is doing ~2m18s.

On that admittedly lame analysis, I'd say that the camera guy on the R1 is moderately quick, but it looks like he's a fast group rider who snuck out into the slow group to give the appearance that he's a whole lot quicker than he really is.
