Mr Bean Crashes McLaren

Discussion in 'The Pub' started by grange, Aug 5, 2011.

  1. Rowan Atkinson is reportedly lucky to be alive after crashing his McLaren F1 supercar.

Top Gear’s fastest celebrity in a reasonably priced car has just crashed a very expensive one.

According to UK news sites, Rowan Atkinson crashed his £650,000 (AU$1,010,000) McLaren supercar after he reportedly lost control and spun off the road
before crashing into a tree and a lamp-post. The car is said to have caught alight following the accident.

The 56-year-old is reported to have freed himself from the wreckage, with a fellow motorist comforting the Mr Bean actor before paramedics arrived at the scene.

According to a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, Atkinson was taken to hospital with “minor injuries”.

One witness is quoted as saying: “Rowan is lucky to be alive”.

The Sun quotes a witness as saying: “It's a miracle that he managed to walk away from the crash.

He's a very lucky man. The car was a wreck, really badly damaged. Rowan must be absolutely gutted.”

It is widely reported that Atkinson purchased the rare supercar to celebrate the success of the Mr Bean film franchise.

It’s not the first time Atkinson has bingled the McLaren F1 supercar. The actor reportedly rear-ended a Rover Metro in October 1999.

Two weeks ago, Atkinson set the fastest time ever recorded on Top Gear UK’s “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car” segment.

Atkinson is a renowned car enthusiast, and has written for a number specialist car magazines

He’s best known for his work on Mr Bean and for being the star of the comedy series Black Adder.

  2. Never really been a fan of Mr Bean but now I like him after finding out he set the fastest time lol
  3. always enjoyed his work, didnt know he set the fastest time either!

    good on him! :p
  4. i wonder if he was getting ready in the back and driving with utensils?
  5. Bloody spoiled it for Tuesday!!!
I didn't know Rowan Atkinston was into cars, sounds a bit like he shouldn't be driving something as powerful as that?
At any rate, I'm glad to hear the guy is OK!! Would be a damn shame to loose such an iconic legend to a car crash! Good on him for getting himself out of the wreckage and walking away too!
  6. Not only does he drive, but often races too. He's actually very good. He was on Top Gear in last weeks ep I think.
  7. By all accounts he is a very capable driver and has had that F1 for a bloody long time, he's put something like 30k miles on it which is a lot for a supercar like that.
  8. Thanks for the "spoiler" guys , Mr Bean isn't on our Top Gear till this coming tues grrrrrr

Was looking forward to some antics from him in the reasonably priced car,
But now know he blitzes the track. ](*,)
  9. Rowan's race car....

  10. Yeah same here!
  11. Hardly a spoiler when major news sites are reporting the crash, and mentioning the top gear episode.

Was also mentioned about 2 weeks ago in another thread (by someone else), that would make those interested, search details of what happened on top gear....
  12. GOSH, grange

this is why we can't have nice things

I've always thought he was brilliant in everything he did. Except for the Mr Bean movies.
  15. guys he wrecked his f1!!!! i think i am going to go and have a little cry, that car was mint!!
  16. At least it got driven like it was supost to be,I remember his first stack and halfway through the first post I am thinking this must be years old and then as I continue I find its stack number 2.Sounds like he knows how to have fun.
  17. Mr Atkinson is one of very few people indeed permitted to drive the Napier Railton (Google it). Being allowed to drive 600 bhp of priceless heritage with no front brakes is not a privilege handed out lightly.
  18. Well, if nothing else, we know that McLaren's are obviously quite safe
  19. Top Gear UK is my favorite show to record when Mythbusters isn't available. Recently though the Top Gear USA started showing, I have their first season DVD set, bloody awful they sure are. Terrible actors that so far are copying several episodes of what the TG-UK shows do, almost exactly the same, but I can't stand them at all.
  20. Couldn't possibly be anymore woeful than the aus version....
