Monash inbound this afternoon 13/02/2012

Discussion in 'Hazardous Road Condition Reports' at netrider.net.au started by smee, Feb 13, 2012.

  1. Huge traffic jam due to a cow on the road which appears to have been struck. Inbound traffic near burnley is cactus outbound is rubberneckers paradise, take care there

I thought they said 'cow' on the radio when i was coming home just before but thought... nah couldn't have been must have been 'car'. Traffic inbound was already back to Burke Rd 4 lanes stopped and building quick when we went the other way.

Can confirm dead bovine in emergency lane about 0.5-1 km from Burnley Tunnel entrance. Was predominantly black with some red bits. All lanes reopened as of about 20 minutes ago.

Wow. I crossed over Burke rd and the Monash about 4.30 and the traffic was backed up even that far.

Cow was still alive when I rode past on going outbound, poor animal had a gaping wound from the neck across the shoulders.
Not much blood though which was surprising.

Apparently cow had to be euth. Most of the traffic heading east out of the Burnley tunnel (incl me) was shunted off into Burnley St, which luckily didn't matter b/c we could head straight down the road and get right back on the Mash.

Citybound was backed up something shocking - I was wondering if it was going to be OK later in the evening when I was heading back to Williamstown for Monday coffee night, but it was all clear by then.
